It is used to join soundboards or backs. Its size is adjustable, meaning it can be used for guitars and smaller instruments, ukuleles etc.
The ovangkol back (not included) used to demonstrate is 220mm (x2) wide and this would be the widest setup of this jig.
The offset clamps and the flat bar can be moved into a different position which would reduce the size and you will be able to clamp smaller soundboards and back.
The biggest challenge when I was making this jig was how to make the centre seam piece to provide enough clamping pressure across the whole length as when clamp it would bend.
I have added notches on the ends and also arched the side that will be in the contact with the material which enabled greater pressure.
The sample jig has a sellotape applied to prevent wood glue binding to the jig. Please note this won’t be applied and you will have to use similar plastic material applied to the centre of the jig and to the centre seam clamp.
The jig is approximately 60x60cm
